What Issues Should I Consider Regarding My Non-Qualified Stock Options?
Overview
Unlike ISOs, NSOs create a taxable event right at exercise, which means the decision to exercise is also, immediately, a tax decision. Planning the timing around your overall income for the year matters more than it might seem.
Once shares are held after exercise, the tax picture shifts again, with further gains or losses treated under normal capital gains rules based on your holding period.
