Researchers at MIT AgeLab describe life as four periods of roughly 8,000 days each: learning, growing, maturing, and exploring. Most of us understand the first three because we have lived them. The fourth, retirement, is the one that gets the least intentional planning, and for many Americans retiring in their mid-60s today, it can span 8,000 days or more.
