Begin with the End in Mind

Hello everyone, this is Cindy Legg and I am excited to be part of Meridian Financial Partners! I look forward to sharing some thoughts with all of you for Meridian’s blog this week.

Have you ever planned a large party or better yet, your own wedding?  If you have, you probably started looking through hundreds or even thousands of pictures to figure out the exact “look” that you wanted.  Perhaps that look is vintage inspired, or in elegant taste, or even country themed; whatever the look, you had a vision of where you wanted to go before you tackled any tedious details!  I recently helped two of my children in their wedding planning, and was overwhelmed with the depth of details involved…thank goodness for the wedding planner.  We couldn’t have done it without her!

The famous author, Stephen R. Covey, has written many books on personal development and leadership. His book titled “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” has been a best seller for decades. Stephen’s  book is based on seven sound principles that, in my opinion, can be life changing in both your personal and professional life.  The title of this blog was actually inspired by Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind.

To “begin with the end in mind” means to use visualization to help lead individuals to where they see themselves as a leader, person, parent…the list goes on.  It is a tremendously effective exercise and if you don’t understand “what” you want, it is hard to get there.

This same sound principle absolutely applies to your financial goals – where do you see yourself in 10, 15, 20 years?  What do you want your retirement to look like and at what age do you plan to retire?  Do you plan to travel?  Do you have a plan for paying off consumer debt, mortgage debt and college loans?  How do you plan on saving for your children’s education or your first home?   Just like planning a wedding, this can be a difficult, tedious, and detail-oriented process, but it doesn’t have to be if you have professional help and guidance.

As we start approaching the end of the year, this is a good time to start thinking about your financial goals, especially with the holidays approaching and the new year right around the corner.  At Meridian Financial Partners, we approach every portfolio with holistic financial planning in mind so we can guide our clients in a way that allows them to accomplish their financial and investment goals.  We look forward to guiding you every step of the way as you reach your financial dreams!
